GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement, unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and their world. On December 1, 2020 the UW Wausau Campus Foundation (formerly the UWMC Foundation) participated in GivingTuesday and surpassed a $50,000 goal to fund the following local scholarships:
- $1,000 Medical College of Wisconsin Advocates in Medicine Pathway (AMP) scholarships – to recruit Hmong and rural students to attend UWSP-Wausau and enroll at MCW to address the shortage of local physicians.
- $1,000 and $1,500 UWSP Advance Commitment Tuition (ACT) scholarships – to encourage top tier high school students to commit early to our campus.
- $2,500 STEAM scholarships – to recruit and retain students majoring in science, technology, engineering, graphic arts, and math (STEAM) to ensure the stability and growth of area employers.
“UWSP-Wausau students need our help to offset the costs of tuition,” said Foundation president, Amy Plier. “Many of our students are first generation and non-traditional, working several jobs to pay for college. They see higher education as a means to a better future. We raised $57,000 for GivingTuesday to increase the number of scholarships awarded so that more students can reach their potential.”
