Ozalle M Toms Campus Executive UW-Stevens Point at Wausau

I have worked in the field of education for over 20 years. I earned doctorate from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. My areas of interest are community engagement, campus climate and student success. My long-standing passion for education was ignited during my eight-year tenure as a high school special education teacher. Prior to joining UWSP, I served for 10 years as faculty member in the college of education and professional studies and as an assistant vice chancellor at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

We have both opportunities and challenges ahead of us as a campus, but I am excited for the opportunity to work with the faculty, staff, students, foundation board, alumni and community partners to rebrand our campus as the “community’s campus.” By community’s campus I mean an educational hub: for the high schooler seeking the rigor of a college course; for the “traditional” high school graduate that wants to earn an associate degree before attending a 4-year campus; and for the returning adult learner who wants to finish their degree or earn an additional degree. This educational hub is also a platform for continuing education programs that will benefit our local businesses partners and stakeholders. The community’s campus is also a gathering place for cultural events, conferences, K-12 events and rental opportunities.

To assist in our campus rebranding, I am working collaboratively with admissions and university communications and marketing, meeting with K-12 educators and administrators, planning events to reach students at the middle school level and telling our campus story at county board and various community meetings. We have two opportunities this fall for prospective students to visit and learn about our campus — ViewPoint days. Each day includes information about admissions, a mock class, student panel and a walking tour of our campus. Please encourage degree seekers you know to attend one of our fall ViewPoint days.

  • Wednesday November 9 from 6-8pm
