Donor Spotlight on Alumnus Tom Steidinger

After many years of high-level success as an insurance executive, Marathon native Tom Steidinger never forgot where he came from. And that is why he was a proud financial supporter of the foundation that serves the UW-Stevens Point at Wausau campus.
As an alumnus of the Wausau campus, Steidinger understood the difference the campus made in the lives of students beginning their higher education journey. He went on to succeed as a senior executive with Wausau Insurance, and later served several years as president of an insurance company in Chicago until his death in 2013. He left a legacy of an endowed scholarship fund that continues to make a big difference for students who have graduated from Marathon High School.
Each year, the UW Wausau Campus Foundation presents the Thomas Steidinger Memorial Scholarship to three graduates of the Marathon School District. The scholarships cover most of the cost of annual tuition for these students on the Wausau campus.
“Tom cared deeply about higher education and his hometown,” said Tom’s brother, Gene Steidinger, Jr. “I know he would be happy to know that his endowed scholarship is helping excellent students from the Marathon area who are beginning their higher education in Wausau.”
